Rustic Road R-20 – Dane County

This 2.9-mile paved route along Dyreson Road winds through fertile farmland and quiet woods in southeast Dane County. As you cross County B, Lake Kegonsa comes into view, adding a splash of blue to the green surroundings.

The historic Dyreson Bridge spans the Yahara River, once a key crossing for Native Americans and early settlers. Nearby, ancient effigy mounds hint at the area’s deep cultural roots. The Dyreson House, a preserved pioneer homestead, still stands as a reminder of early Wisconsin life. Wetlands along the way offer peaceful moments and the chance to spot herons, ducks, or the occasional whitetail.
