Rustic Road 124

Rustic Road R-124 – Dane County
Winding 4.8 miles along Town Hall Road from WIS 92 to County S, this paved route takes you deep into the Driftless Area’s rugged beauty. Towering hardwood trees arch overhead as the road dips into valleys carved by crystal-clear trout streams. Historic homes and buildings from the 1800s and early 1900s add a touch of old-school Wisconsin charm. You’re rolling through some of the oldest geology around—sandstone bluffs like Donald Rock tell the story of ancient sand dunes turned stone and sculpted by retreating seas millions of years ago.
At the southern end, the valley once provided spring water for Native Americans and today hosts the sprawling 782-acre Donald County Park. Here you can hike, fish, hunt, snowshoe, or just chill while soaking in the timeless Driftless vibe.
