Rustic Road 78

R-78 is a winding escape through the heart of nature, stretching four miles through Lincoln County’s hardwood forests and over the scenic New Wood River. The northern stretch runs alongside the Bill Cross Wildlife Area, a haven for eagles, osprey, deer, bear, wolves, mink, and otter—so keep your eyes peeled for some of Wisconsin’s wildest locals.
At the southern end, history buffs will appreciate a glimpse of Copper School, a classic one-room schoolhouse that stands as a reminder of simpler times. With a mix of paved and unpaved roads, this route offers the perfect blend of rustic charm and backwoods beauty.
