Rustic Road 21

Tucked away in Sauk County, Southwest Wisconsin, this 8.6-mile mix of paved and gravel roads — including Schara, Ruff, Orchard, and Slotty — is a stoner’s dream for a mellow cruise with foraging vibes.
Winding through rugged hills near Natural Bridge State Park, home to the ancient Raddatz Rock Shelter, the oldest documented site of primitive man in the upper Midwest.
The route is lined with oak, maple, basswood, and hickory trees. Come spring and summer, wildflowers pop up everywhere, and sharp-eyed travelers might spot berries, mushrooms, or other foraged treats. In the fall you just might find a Grifola Frondosa (Hen-of-the-Woods Mushroom) growing at the base of an old oak tree.
Plus, with old barn ruins and home foundations!
