Point Beach Ridges

Point Beach Ridges is a rare coastal gem shaped by ancient waves of glacial Lake Nipissing. This State Natural Area features 11 alternating ridges and swales running parallel to Lake Michigan, each formed over the past 8,000 years.
The ridges support diverse forest types, from black ash and tamarack to white pine, hemlock, and birch, gradually transitioning to sandy dunes with hardy plants like juniper and bearberry.
The beach and dune zones host rare coastal flora, offering a glimpse of what undisturbed Great Lakes shorelines once looked like. It’s a peaceful, nature-filled escape perfect for mindful exploration and elevated forest bathing.
