Lake Helane

Lake Helane is a hidden gem, an undeveloped soft-water seepage lake with two basins connected by a navigable channel. Spanning 51 acres with a max depth of 27 feet, its sand and gravel bottom keeps the water crystal clear.
A narrow belt of red and white pine surrounds the shore, while boggy wetlands with leatherleaf, cranberry, and sedges add to the wild charm. The area is alive with birdlife, from belted kingfishers to black-throated blue warblers.
Nestled within the Sawyer County Forest, Lake Helane has been protected as a State Natural Area since 2009, preserving its beauty and biodiversity.
