Mark Born (R)
Won the August 2024 Primary with 69% of the vote.
Republican Incumbent; ran unopposed in 2022. Faced Bates in 2024 and will face Bates again in 2026.
Former corrections supervisor, Dodge County Sheriff’s Department. Elected to Beaver Dam Fire and Police Commission, 2003–05; Beaver Dam City Council, 2005–09; Assembly since 2012.
Rep. Born has been somewhat quiet regarding his support for medical marijuana reform and comes in as a late co-sponsor to the Republican bill to create a medical marijuana program in 2019-20, but was absent from any attempts in 2021-22.
Born was the Co-Chair of the JFC in 2021 when marijuana provisions were removed from the state budget proposals. No public hearings were held on marijuana legalization in the session.
He was again Co-Chair of the powerful Joint Finance Committee in 2023 when everything marijuana was stripped from the budget and people who showed up to testify on that portion of the budget were not allowed to testify.
Rep. Born reappeared in 2024 as a dead bill was introduced late in session, but he was co-sponsor of this VERY controversial GOP medical cannabis legislation.
Rep. Born was again co-chair of the JFC for 2025-26 which again stripped almost all cannabis provisions from the budget, including simple age gate (21+) requirements. Only at the last minute (and unknown to many on the JFC) the hemp vape exemption extension made it the final 2025-26 budget.
Rep. Born was absent from any hemp or medical cannabis legislation in 2026.
