Rustic Road R-119 – Winnebago County

This 3.2-mile mix of paved and unpaved road takes you through low-key scenic beauty with a splash of rail history. Rolling past the ghost of Medina Junction—a once-busy early 1900s train depot complete with a stockyard, store, and restaurant—you can almost hear the old locomotives rumbling by.

Today, the route offers chill views of the Rat River Wildlife Area and easy access to the Wiouwash and Friendship State Trails. Marshes line the way, teeming with ducks, geese, cranes, herons, beavers, and muskrats. It’s a laid-back backroad cruise with nature vibes and a whisper of the past.
