Havenwoods State Forest

Havenwoods State Forest is a leafy oasis in the heart of Milwaukee — 237 acres of woods, stroll over the 120-foot bridge wetlands, grasslands and ponds, tucked right inside the city. Trails (about six miles’ worth) weave through trees, wildflower-ringed wetlands and prairie-style grasslands, offering chill paths for hiking, biking or just wandering.

The boardwalks over water let you float above cattails and watch birds or critters slip under the surface. The vibe feels peaceful, alive, and urban-mystical — a perfect spot to escape concrete without going far. There’s even a Nature Center where you can explore exhibits, borrow snowshoes or binoculars, or just soak in the forest energy.
