Historic Cedarburg Covered Bridge

Once one of over 40 covered bridges in Wisconsin, the Cedarburg Covered Bridge is the last of its kind. Originally called the “Red Bridge,” it sits three miles north of Cedarburg and 20 miles from Milwaukee near Highways 60 and 143.
Covered bridges served many purposes—protecting the wooden trusses, sheltering travelers, and easing the fears of oxen reluctant to cross open water. One legend even claims the bridge helped farmers by knocking down overstacked hay bales. Today, the Cedarburg Bridge stands as a rare piece of Wisconsin history, offering a glimpse into the past.
