Cedarburg Bog State Natural Area

Cedarburg Bog State Natural Area is the most pristine large bog in southeast Wisconsin and offers a rare glimpse of northern-style wetlands in a southern setting. Once part of a glacial lake, this unique landscape is a mix of open water, sedge meadows, and forested swamps.
Six lakes dot the bog, including 245-acre Mud Lake and 34-acre Long Lake. Surrounding these are zones of aquatic plants and shrub-carr thickets. The real gem is a patterned bog—ridges of stunted cedar and tamarack rising from a flat sedge mat—typically found far north of here.
Pitcher plants, orchids, sundew, and bladderwort thrive in this wild, trippy ecosystem. Managed by the DNR and UW, Cedarburg Bog is a must-explore for stoners into rare plants, peaceful vibes,
