Rustic Road 50

In southeast Wisconsin’s Adams County, Cottonville Avenue—affectionately called “Old State Road” by locals—offers a 4.6-mile stretch of unpaved, mellow road that’s perfect for a slow roll or quiet nature cruise.
Believed to have been laid out by the state back in the 1800s, this historic route drifts from 8th Avenue to 4th Avenue through a laid-back landscape of lowland and upland trees, dense shrubbery, and peaceful marshes. The area is teeming with wildlife, so don’t be surprised if you spot deer, grouse, or a chorus of wild birds along the way. It’s an old-school Wisconsin vibe, ideal for tuning out and taking it all in.
